Summarizing your life into a few meaningful paragraphs is a sobering assignment.
I s'pose I could tell you things like where I was born. Where I went to school. How I earn a living. That,
however, seems much more like giving you statistics -- hoping to buy you off with an easily digestible pie chart -- instead
of trying to give you some sense of who I am.
I am a seeker at heart, restless by nature. I'm happiest when I'm busy... growing, learning, creating... exploring
a new corner of the universe. I take childish delight in discovering the world around me -- provided I'm not too
distracted by bills or deadlines or mind-numbing reruns.
Laughter is a plague that I would gladly infect the world with. I love finding humor in the gears and wheels
of our common existence. I love raising low spirits with a few good-natured giggles. I love sticking a pinky finger up
the nose of the self-righteous.
I routinely despair at the state of human society... wondering how this horribly twisted experiment
gone awry ever came to be. I ponder how I might save it -- or whether I should. Or if it wouldn't be better to blow it all up
and make a clean start. But it's an odd thing -- while people in groups almost always disappoint me, I find redeeming
worthwhile qualities in almost every individual I meet. So most days, I'm content to follow my own path... and trust
other folks to do the same.
Because life is too damn short to not fill it with what you love.
And though I make a conscious effort to do what brings me joy, I'm still a little shocked to find myself tremendously blessed. I
have the great good fortune of love, friends, health, happy home, steady job, and many adorable rolly-polly cats in my life. I
make a point of regularly enjoying good dark ales, long bike rides in the sunshine, and starry summer nights with cricket song extending in every
direction.
I know it won't last forever. The great wheel of life ever turns -- it's not in the nature of things to stay
the same. But at the moment -- at this particular point in time -- life is incredibly sweet and deeply satisfying.
What more can one ask for than that?
