We won't ever fix a broken heart
that refuses the simple act
of prescribed changes to destiny.
So many things go past
positive thoughts projected.
Just because your suicide
takes longer than most
it's still a gun in the mouth
to your offspring.

Your apathy
feels so deliberate.

Word of mouth
is the only way I hear
of you now.
It's the women in our clan
that keep news up-kept
that keep the wounds clean.
Never one to sign your name
or pick up the phone
our relationship is beyond tenuous.
It's more mythic,
strenuous
and false.

Hearts won't heal
from surgery,
pain or abuse
if you refuse to heal yourself.
Just because
you've given up on life
and your lineage
it doesn't mean your suicide is less painful;
it's still a gun in the mouth
to your offspring.
